Facing a risk that I will lose my regular pay-check job in near future, I start to take my interesting in stock market more seriouly. I have developed one trading strategy ( I called 1R/3R setup) which performance is unknown yet.
My initally goal of day trading is to cover my living expense: $5,000 per month; next level goal is to reach my current salary level: $8,000-$10,000 per month.

I am very greatful for your blog which I find very inspiring. I like the fact that you publish your trades in $s and provide screen shots of executions. This is very helpful insight.
Could you please let us know how you arrive at your daily target list of stocks and if you use a scanner to find your setups.

I generate watchlist from several sources. I ran my own small scanning program which fetch daily quotes from Yahoo!Finance and filter based on volume, price and ATR to create next day’s watch list; before market open, I go to http://dynamic.nasdaq.com/dynamic/premarketma.stm to check the gap up/down issues with unusual volume and add them to my watchlist; also have Richard’s weekly top day trade stocks from http://www.movethemarkets.com/blog/2006/10/08/top-stocks-to-day-trade-week-starting-20061009/
During trading session, I also run a scan which check Yahoo! daily quote to see if any stocks have today’s range >= 2* ATR, that’s my 3R strategy play candidate.
Many programs can help you do daily scan. I used QuotePlus about 4 years ago, the program is pretty good, but as I was in lossing track at that time and dropped the service to cut my trading cost.
